First full EBPP solution to launch in SA

Estrin Software will soon be launching E-Pay, its EBPP online payment component. Estrin has a strong solution for the local market based on a push methodology and stealth PKI (public key infrastructure) encryption.

"Our choice of push technology and cryptographic tools was done after exhaustive research both locally and globally," says Uri Estrin, COO of Estrin Software. "Utilising push technology, the consumer does not need to log onto the biller's Web site to retrieve their bill. Further, VAT legislation requires that the recipient stores their original, unalterable document, which is not possible if it is viewed from a Web site," he says.

Locally designed and developed, the e-billing engine runs ideally on a Linux/Unix platform and can be scaled up depending on the server's processing capacity and bandwidth availability. Outright ownership allows the biller to install a standalone server on their own network, behind their own firewalls, ensuring that they have total control of their data.

A customised look and feel allows the biller to integrate the product into its existing Web presence and offer its clients a customer interface to self-administer their billing requirements.

A decoder installation is required by each bill recipient on their desktop. Operating systems currently supported include: Windows 95/98/2000/XP, Red Hat 6/7 and a Mac OSX version due for release later this year. The decoder generates a pair of 1024bit DSA keys and can be installed on a 486 processor and up. The decoder currently supports decryption of HTML, EML, MHT, PDF, CSV and XLS file formats.

"The decisive integration into a legacy system is through real-time communication. We have had extensive experience in areas including Web calls, remote database calls, XML and RPCs," says Estrin. "There is usually a channel to suck the data out, but this is not always an option, so worst case scenario, a CSV file dump."

Estrin Software will be the first in this country to launch a full EBPP solution, including payment technologies, which will be demonstrated live using Standard Bank's Autopay gateway and Setcom's credit card gateway. see www.estrin.co.za
