Dotcoza 'lacks critical test details'

Johannesburg - Estrin Software, a local technology company, questioned at the weekend whether the Dotcoza project was not just a marketing ploy for Andersen Consulting, the firm running the R2 million experiment.

The project is meant to test the ability of the local Internet to provide a consumer with everything needed for survival.

Uri Estrin, the chief operating officer of Estrin Software, said Dotcoza should be using specific criteria to test each site and then update its website constantly with the new information.

Details Estrin felt were lacking included selections, data tracking, security, digital certification, navigation, pricing and competitive factors.

"There should be a structured way of informing the public constantly about exactly what he is doing on the Internet," said Estrin. "It must be beneficial to other consumers."

Andersen Consulting said website reviews would be posted and apologised for the delay. Estrin's suggestions had been forwarded to the research team.
